5 Ways to Style Power Suits

Even though a coordinated suit set is one of the wardrobe staples, I never owned one up to date. Frankly speaking, I never thought there was a need for one in this super war( hot rather) city, but boy was I wrong. Last Summer I saw a wave of candy-colored suits being released by every brand and I thought, it would be the right time to invest in one. Moreover, the current-gen has vetoed formal wear at work, and it is a great thing coz you are allowed to wear whatever your mind says you to. When you buy a suit set, it is really important to keep in mind that the fit and the material is quite important. A badly fitted suit can be so wrong for you.
Also when you make a decision of getting one, buy the one that suits your persona. You would have to think about factors like shoulder pads- if you need one with it or not, the style of the lapel and the pockets and the button placement and most importantly, the fit of the pant, if you want tapered pants, bell fit, anti-fit, etc. For example, I can see myself wearing really fitted tapered style pants, with a double-breasted suit. Hell, even an anti-fit chequered suit is a great addition to your wardrobe and you can mix-and-match with it in so many different ways!

Here are a few ideas for styling a jacket :

  1. Dress it down with a simple black or a t-shirt or even with a pair of sneakers for an everyday casual look. Accessories: Nothing but a pretty bag
  2. Dress it with a pair of stilettos to die for a matching crop top for drinks in the evening. Accessories: A set of simple layered necklaces with a thick disco choker.
  3.  Belt it up with a statement belt or a belt bag, preferably go bare on the inside or maybe not. It is a choice :). Accessories: The belt is already making a statement here, a pair of hoops will look just about right.
  4. Color block with a contrasting blouse as I have in this blog post. Accessories: Keep the accessories neutral or go black or white. Minimalistic jewelry might be added.
  5. Mix-and-Match. Wear a suit jacket with a skirt or a pair of jeans or even a contrasting set of pants. Wearing a suit over a shift dress or denim always takes the outfit up a notch. Accessories: An extra oomph is added when you style denim with a suit Jacket and a statement clutch. The bigger the size of the clutch bag, the better it is. If you prefer something girly, try wearing a shift dress under a jacket and carry a bucket bag. This works perfectly for casual days and shopping after office hours.
